SUMMARY:That Which Grows in the Swamp is Swallowed by the Stomach
DESCRIPTION:Screenshot\n\n\n\nPublic opening event: Thursday 20 August\, 6-9pmExhibition dates: 21 August – 6 SeptemberOpening hours: Friday\, Saturday\, and Sunday\, 12-6pm Location: SET Vauxhall (16th Floor)\, Camelford House\, 89 Albert Embankment\, London\, SE1 7TPArtists: Andie Aylsworth\, Isis Powers Bird\, Keyannah Isaacs\, Holly Lou Jones\, Rinsanga Leivang\, Dani SmithAdmission: Free \n\n\n\nThat Which Grows in the Swamp is Swallowed by the Stomach is an ongoing exhibition project initiated and coordinated by Andie Aylsworth and Keyannah Isaacs\, which aims to invite new collaborators each year who share an interest in posthumanism\, ecology\, and material-led practice. The first iteration of the exhibition series was presented as part of Central Saint Martins’ 2023 degree show\, and the second was held at Hypha Studios in 2024. The upcoming exhibition will take place in SET Vauxhall’s project space on the 16th Floor as part of the SET Associate Members’ Programme\, with Dani Smith joining the curatorial team to develop the exhibition alongside the project’s founders. \n\n\n\nThe exhibition draws on posthuman thought through material\, bodily\, and ecological thinking\, considering the tension between organic and inorganic matter\, as well as human and nonhuman agency. It resists fixed hierarchies and binaries\, instead foregrounding entanglement\, instability\, and transformation. \n\n\n\nThis iteration places particular emphasis on materiality as a means of exploring these ideas. Through sensorial encounters and processes of material transformation\, the exhibition considers how materials themselves shape perception\, atmosphere\, and our relationships to bodies\, landscapes\, and ecological systems. \n\n\n\nRather than positioning landscape as a passive backdrop to human experience\, the exhibition considers landscape and body as mutually constitutive: porous\, shifting\, and continually shaping one another. Organic forms\, found materials\, and processes of transformation foreground the permeability between self and environment\, inviting audiences to consider how bodies are embedded within wider ecological systems. In doing so\, the exhibition offers temporary moments of displacement from everyday modes of perception\, encouraging visitors to inhabit spaces of ritual\, contemplation\, and imaginative possibility. \n\n\n\nWhile these ideas provide a conceptual framework for the exhibition\, they are intended as points of departure rather than fixed themes. We are interested in how each participating artist approaches these ideas through their own material language and practice\, and we welcome diverse interpretations that expand\, challenge\, or complicate the exhibition’s ongoing conversation. \n\n\n\nContributing artists\n\n\n\nDani Smith\nDani Smith is a visual artist working across painting\, drawing\, video and installation. Her practice explores material transformation\, symbolism and intimacy\, constructing dreamlike worlds that blur familiar and imagined realities.Instagram: @_danismth \n\n\n\n\nAndie Aylsworth\nAndie Aylsworth (b. 2000) is a London-based textile artist whose practice explores kinship with the more-than-human world through the lens of Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK)\, learned via her indigenous heritage.Instagram: @andie.aylsworthWebsite: https://andieaylsworth.com/ \n\n\n\n\nHolly Lou Jones\nHolly Lou Jones is a multidisciplinary artist exploring bodily tension through sculpture\, installation\, photography\, and jewellery. Her practice examines queerness\, femininity\, disability\, resilience\, and the grotesque beauty of embodied experience.Instagram: @hollylou.jonesWebsite: https://www.hollyloujones.com/ \n\n\n\n\nKeyannah Isaacs\nKeyannah Isaacs is a London-based artist whose practice explores ideas of transformation and decay through material hybridity. Disrupting the boundaries between organic and inorganic\, stability and collapse\, they seek to uncover potentials of ambiguity and liminality. \n\n\n\nInstagram: @keeiiksWebsite: https://www.keyannahisaacs.com/ \n\n\n\n\nIsis Powers-Bird\nIsis Powers-Bird is a multi-disciplinary artist working across sculpture\, text\, drawing\, moving image and sound. Her work is made as a response to the growing estrangement between the human body and the natural world. Instagram: @isispowersbird \n\n\n\n\nRinsanga Leivang\nRinsanga Leivang is a multi-disciplinary installation artist exploring themes of memory\, scarcity\, and obscurity within the lens of digital accumulation and intangible spaces.Instagram: @angaleivWebsite: https://www.angaleiv.com/ \n\n\n\n\nAbout SET’s Associate Members Programme\n\n\n\nThis exhibition is presented as part of SET’s Associate Members Programme\, which offers artists studio space\, alongside access to project spaces and opportunities to independently curate or participate exhibitions\, workshops\, and events. \n\n\n\nThe programme supports a wide range of practices\, from performance and installation to music\, sound\, print\, and textiles\, and is designed to provide space\, visibility\, and development opportunities for early-career and underrepresented artists working in London. \n\n\n\nPoster Image courtesy of Isis Powers Bird

SUMMARY:Junk Mail Cheerleader
DESCRIPTION:Dates: 18 September – 4 OctoberPublic opening event: 17 September\, 6-9pm Gallery hours: Thursday – Saturday\, 1-6pmAdmission: FreeSET 91 presents Junk Mail Cheerleader\, the third exhibition of its second six-month curated programme. Curated by artists Ismay Bright and Peter Eason Daniels\, the show brings together new works across their respective practices of mosaic and film photography. \n\n\n\nAbout the exhibition\n\n\n\nThis exhibition is anchored in the process of collecting and preserving found text through their respective mediums of mosaic and film photography. Equally interested in examining the impact of materiality and context\, the two artists present works that isolate phrases from their original surroundings to offer up new readings. \n\n\n\nBright presents a series of figurative mosaic facades that explore the limits of the written word and trace how our relationship with text shifts as it passes from one context to another. \n\n\n\nEason Daniels’ work is concerned with collection and permanence. Using cameras as tools to document\, suspend and repeat\, he presents a series of darkroom prints made from fragments of text sliced from years of collected negatives. These fragments are digested and pieced together in the darkroom\, forming phrases such as “Only love walks”. \n\n\n\nLearn more\n\n\n\nAbout SET 91\n\n\n\nSET 91 is SET’s first in-house curated contemporary arts gallery\, located in Old Street. Dedicated to supporting early-career contemporary artists\, the gallery provides a non-profit platform for experimentation\, collaboration\, and the presentation of new work beyond commercial pressures. \n\n\n\nLearn more
