Courtesy of the artist.Images: Leprous\, Ben Raz (2025)\, oil on canvas\, 100 x 150cm. Part of the ‘Spores’ exhibition. Courtesy of the artist.\n\n\n\nSpores brings together a body of work exploring natural processes\, cycles\, and the shifting dynamics of meaning\, function\, and language. Across a series of landscape paintings\, nature emerges not as a passive backdrop but as an active\, adaptive presence. Paths\, clearings\, and subtle traces of occupation appear throughout\, yet growth\, erosion\, and seasonal rhythms continuously reshape what remains. These landscapes become sites of quiet tension\, where imposed order and organic change intersect\, dissolve\, and transform over time. \n\n\n\nAt the centre of the exhibition stands a raised root cellar structure\, functioning as both artefact and monument. Traditionally designed to preserve food under controlled subterranean conditions\, the structure is removed from its original context\, repositioned within the gallery\, and wrapped in archived exhibition texts. \n\n\n\nBuilt using only a single cross-sectional diagram as reference\, the cellar is deliberately misinterpreted\, exposing an interior logic intended to explain function while remaining unusable in practice. Nearby\, lanterns removed from their holders and rendered redundant by the gallery’s light operate as imperfect repetitions of a familiar form\, suggesting an absent action. The work foregrounds systems of preservation—temporal\, architectural\, and cultural—and the instability that arises when these systems are displaced from their intended purpose. \n\n\n\nTogether\, the works reflect on transience\, obsolescence\, and endurance. In Spores\, nature preserves itself through decay and renewal\, revealing transformation through instability. Figures in many of the landscapes are partially absorbed by darkness\, while the lanterns lie abandoned\, their utility uncertain. Through these shifts between visibility and concealment\, function and failure\, the exhibition highlights the gradual erosion of authority in both structures and ideas. \n\n\n\nExhibition details\n\n\n\nDates: 11-28 FebruaryOpening: 11 February\, 6-9pmLocation: Unit 1\, Lewisham Retail Park\, Loampit Vale\, London SE13 7RZAdmission: Free \n\n\n\nThe exhibition will be viewable by appointment only for the opening. \n\n\n\nContact:benraz95@gmail.comtarzankingofthejungle123@gmail.com \n\n\n\nContributing artists\n\n\n\nTarzan Kingofthejungle\nWebsite: tarzankingofthejungle.comInstagram: @tarzan_kingofthejungle \n\n\n\nBased in London\, Tarzan Kingofthejungle (b. 1998) works works across film\, sculpture\, performance\, and writing. His practice involves constructing scenes from borrowed elements—props\, lines\, symbols\, or characters—isolated and stripped of their original contexts\, such as a discarded lantern\, a lens flare\, or a soundtrack. Through dismantling\, manipulating\, and rearranging these fragments\, he explores how meaning shifts and emerges through narrative potential and residue. \n\n\n\nRecent exhibitions include Metropolis (curated by Jacob Sirkin)\, Greatorex St\, London; Alpine XP\, Plicnik Space Initiative; Reset Atelier\, Brussels; Planned Obsolescence\, Seager Gallery\, London; Log 2: NovoStruct Hard Hat Area\, Plicnik Space Initiative; Half Truths (curated by Vanessa Murrell)\, London; OTO (Lux Moving Image\, RCA)\, Fold\, London. \n\n\n\n\nBen Raz\nWebsite: www.benraz.orgInstagram: @benr.az \n\n\n\nBen Raz (b. 1995) lives and works in London. He graduated from the Slade School of Art in 2021. Raz’s paintings synthesise varied interests\, experiences\, observations\, and imaginings\, engaging themes of desire\, the clandestine\, the sublime\, and modern decadence. These ideas are reinforced through the coalescence of disparate images and information. \n\n\n\nMany of the paintings are characterised by ambiguity and a lack of clarity; Raz is interested in how an image can simultaneously reveal and withhold meaning. \n\n\n\nRecent exhibitions include presentations at Bolding Gallery\, Pusher Gallery\, Xxijra Hii\, and Hew Hood Gallery. \n\n\n\n\nAbout SET’s Associate Members Programme\n\n\n\nThis exhibition is presented as part of SET’s Associate Members Programme\, which offers artists studio space alongside access to project spaces and opportunities to independently curate exhibitions\, workshops\, and events. \n\n\n\nThe programme supports a wide range of practices\, from performance and installation to music\, sound\, print\, and textiles\, and is designed to provide space\, visibility\, and development opportunities for early-career and underrepresented artists working in London.

SUMMARY:Theatre Other Open Rehearsal
DESCRIPTION:Join Theatre Other for an open rehearsal of their developing performance Join the Dance. \n\n\n\nThis session invites audiences into the rehearsal space to witness and respond as dance artists explore what a “dancing space” can be today. Participants are encouraged to offer honest feedback and critical reflection to help shape the development of the work. You are welcome to bring your own medium to respond live\, whether that is drawing materials\, writing tools\, instruments\, or other creative approaches.Drawing inspiration from the phenomenon of 16th century dancing mania\, Theatre Other explores how collective movement persists today\, across streets\, social clubs and town halls in London. The work investigates how social identities shape the ways bodies move through space\, tracing patterns of movements that feel both pleasurable and disturbing. \n\n\n\nThis project is co-devised by a queer\, neurodivergent collective exploring alternative approaches to collective making. \n\n\n\nEvent details\n\n\n\nDate: Wednesday 25 FebruaryTime: 3-5pmTicketing/booking: Free. Please RSVP via otheatreother@gmail.com \n\n\n\nPlease note: some scenes may be disturbing for younger audiences. \n\n\n\nWe aim to make the space as accessible as possible. If there is anything that would support your participation\, please get in touch at the above email. \n\n\n\nAbout the organiser: Theatre Other assembled through spontaneous encounters and shared curiosity in summer 2025. The group exists beyond traditional categories of “dancers” and “non-dancers”\, creating nurturing environments for collective making and collaborative performance practice. \n\n\n\nPoster design: @da.lsyArtwork: @marleyartan

SUMMARY:D.E.A.D - Dazzling Eulogies and Devotions
DESCRIPTION:A cabaret for the dead divas we miss so much. \n\n\n\nAlan Rickman. David Bowie. Harper Lee. Carrie Fisher. George Michael. Prince. Leonard Cohen. Victoria Wood. Zsa Zsa Gabor. Muhammad Ali. And Fraser Buchanan’s (the organiser) mum. What do all these people have in common? They all died in 2016. \n\n\n\nTen years on\, this event reflects on grief as something vast\, world-shifting\, and deeply personal\, but also something that can hold humour\, tenderness\, and release. There are dark jokes to tell\, sweet stories to share\, silly songs to sing\, and moments worth sitting with. \n\n\n\nD.E.A.D (Dazzling Eulogies and Devotions) is a one-off cabaret-come-memorial bringing together songs\, poems\, anecdotes\, and short performances. A group of invited artists and collaborators share work that honours loss\, memory\, and the people we carry with us\, without asking the audience to be solemn\, polished\, or resolved. \n\n\n\nThe evening is intentionally low-key\, camp\, heartfelt\, and a little irreverent. It offers space to sit with death and grief without the pressure to explain it\, fix it\, or make it palatable. \n\n\n\nFeaturing performances from: \n\n\n\nLavinia Co-opDanielle JamesMax LindsayMx FortuneGayathiri KamalakanthanTemi WilkeyFraser Buchanan \n\n\n\nmore to be announced! \n\n\n\nImportant note\n\n\n\nThis event is not group therapy. It is not facilitated by a trained grief counsellor and does not offer bereavement support. It is a cabaret for people who want to sit with themes of death and loss without worrying about making others uncomfortable. Dedicated bereavement resources are available elsewhere for those who need them. \n\n\n\nEvent details\n\n\n\nDate: Thursday 26 FebruaryTime: 6-8.30pm (doors from 5.30pm)Location: Red Room\, SET SocialAge restriction: 16+Tickets: £5 and available via Ticket Tailor. \n\n\n\nBook tickets\n\n\n\nAbout the organiser: \n\n\n\nThis event is curated and produced by Fraser Buchanan (@fraserfab)\, a performer and producer working across cabaret\, performance\, and community-led arts.More information: fraserfab.net \n\n\n\nWith thanks to Raze Collective for their support. For event queries\, please email fraser@razecollective.com.Artwork by Moss Kissing.

SUMMARY:Soft Ground: Textiles and Self-Soothing Workshop Series
DESCRIPTION:Soft Ground is a four-month programme of free weekly drop-in textile-based art sessions\, designed to support mental wellbeing through creativity\, routine\, and communal making. \n\n\n\nDrawing from neurodivergent practices and trauma-informed methodologies\, the sessions are open to all\, with a particular welcome extended to neurodivergent participants. The programme offers a gentle\, sensory-aware environment where participants can engage with textile processes at their own pace\, using tactile making as a tool for self-soothing\, co-regulation\, and creative exploration. \n\n\n\nEach two-hour session is led by a rotating group of women artists recognised for their inclusive practices and lived experience of neurodivergence: Kim Chin\, Birungi Kawooya\, Sue Mayo\, and Jenny McIlhatton. Participants are invited to drop in\, try different approaches to textile making\, and take part in a supportive communal space focused on reducing isolation\, building trust\, and nurturing emotional wellbeing. \n\n\n\nSessions follow a consistent weekly format designed to create structure and accessibility\, particularly for those who experience anxiety\, sensory overload\, or social isolation. While the programme centres neurodivergent experiences\, it is open to anyone in the local community interested in creativity as a pathway to wellbeing. \n\n\n\nAll sessions take place at SET Social\, our arts and social club in Peckham. DESCRIPTION:A four-part workshop series exploring ancestry\, healing\, and inherited patterns. \n\n\n\nHealing the Hidden Ancestral Stories is a supportive series of four workshops inviting participants to explore their ancestral history through journaling\, meditation\, and sound. The sessions offer time and space to reflect on inherited experiences\, patterns\, and stories\, and to gently work with how these may continue to shape our lives. \n\n\n\nEach workshop combines guided journaling\, meditation\, and sound work using Tibetan healing bowls. The sessions are designed to support individual exploration in a safe\, grounded environment\, allowing participants to connect with both personal and ancestral narratives and to begin releasing what no longer serves their lineage. \n\n\n\nThis course is open to people of all faiths and belief systems. The session focuses on identifying these patterns and working with sound and meditation to begin clearing them. \n\n\n\nSession 2 — Saturday 7 MarchExploring the impact of displacement\, including ancestral or personal experiences of moving between lands and places. The session looks at how this history can affect us today and includes meditation and sound work to support healing. \n\n\n\nSession 3 — Saturday 14 MarchExploring collective trauma within your lineage and how this may show up in your life. Meditation and sound are used to gently work with and release connected trauma. \n\n\n\nSession 4 — Saturday 21 MarchExploring the gifts inherited through both individual and ancestral experience. SUMMARY:Mud Volts: Permacomputing Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Plants are good. Electricity is fun. What happens when we bring the two together? \n\n\n\nInspired by Sunjoo Lee’s Electric Garden\, this community session will build a collection of soil-based microbial fuel cells\, also known as “mud cells”\, which generate small amounts of electricity through the metabolic processes of soil bacteria. Each plant pot becomes a living power source. \n\n\n\nParticipants will work together to build mud cells and collectively decide on a low-power device to power during the session. The workshop invites reflection on how technology can be designed with adaptability\, care and ecological awareness in mind. \n\n\n\nAll materials are provided. The session is free to attend. \n\n\n\nEvent details\n\n\n\nDate: Sunday 1 MarchTime: 1-3pmEntry: Free \n\n\n\nAbout the organiser: \n\n\n\nThis workshop is hosted by the Permacomputing community\, a gathering dedicated to cultivating resilient and sustainable approaches to technology. The group shares skills\, explores regenerative and low-tech computing practices\, and encourages hands-on maintenance and repair. At a time when extractive and high-impact technologies dominate culture\, Permacomputing seeks to build alternatives rooted in transparency and care. The Permacomputing club runs every Monday\, 6:30-7:30pm at SET Social. You can learn more here. You can learn more at: permacomputing.net/principles \n\n\n\nMud Volts forms part of SET Social’s March Community Day and Market. SUMMARY:Turncoats: North vs South London debate
DESCRIPTION:Of all the 272 Tube stations\, fewer than 9% are south of the Thames while 39 out of 41 Elizabeth Line stations are in the North. Yet ironically North London’s transport generosity seems to create a culture that is anything but. \n\n\n\nWhile southern Londoners obligingly drag themselves North at the behest of friends in Clapton or Chalk Farm without complaint\, persuading a Northerner to cross the river in the other direction is like drawing blood from a stone. There are at least 59 ways to cross the river in the capital by foot\, boat\, road\, rail or cable car\, yet many North Londoners still insist the south of their city is “difficult to get to”. \n\n\n\nWhat is it about North London that breeds a pampered psyche too timid to venture beyond Hackney or try the Thameslink? Why would so many North Londoners rather queue round the block for a cramped seat at an over-hyped small plates restaurant in Soho when for half the price they could have a vat of Ecuadorian fish soup or a mountain of Nigerian suya on The Old Kent Road? Who would choose the Maseratis of Knightsbridge\, the banker-wankers of the City and the insufferably smug postcard families of Stoke Newington over Burgess Park barbecues\, the Blackheath Kite Day and that sauna in the Finnish church? \n\n\n\nIn these hyper-polarised times\, Turncoats returns to SET Social to tackle the biggest schism of our divided nation. Buckingham Palace vs Crystal Palace. The Ivy members club vs The Ivy House community pub. Fancy buildings and high air pollution vs sprawling parks and modernist council estates. \n\n\n\nThe ultimate grudge match: North vs South London. \n\n\n\nSpeakers\n\n\n\nNorth LondonKasia TomasiewiczPater Bloxham \n\n\n\nSouth LondonHidigo DulaneOwen Hatherley \n\n\n\nChairAydin Dikerdem \n\n\n\nAdditional performers to be announced. \n\n\n\nEvent details\n\n\n\nDate: Thursday 5 MarchTime: 7-10pmTickets: From £8 \n\n\n\nBook tickets\n\n\n\nTurncoats is presented in partnership with FA Front and Architecture Foundation.

SUMMARY:OffBeat Presents: The Land Between Race and Place
DESCRIPTION:OffBeat returns to SET Social for the final events in its programme before the OffBeat Folk Film Festival launches in May. \n\n\n\nFor this special evening\, OffBeat is joined by curator and researcher Gabriel Leavey for a programme of film screenings and discussion exploring the Black British experience across these isles and how it intersects with ideas of folk culture. \n\n\n\nThe event asks a series of questions about identity\, geography and belonging. Why is Black Britishness so often associated with the “urban”? What happens when your roots are suburban or rural? Can Black British identity also exist within folk culture\, and what does it mean to occupy the socially and geographically liminal space between race and place? \n\n\n\nThe evening will feature films\, conversation and discussion\, alongside a relaxed atmosphere with cheap beer\, pizza and samosas available. \n\n\n\nThis event forms part of a two-night programme curated by Gabriel Leavey taking place across London\, with the second night Walthamstow Trades Hall on 9 March. \n\n\n\nEvent Details\n\n\n\nDate: Thursday 12 MarchTime: 6.30-10.30pmLocation: SET Social\, 55a Nigel Road\, Peckham SE15 4NPTickets: £10\, available from Ticket Tailor. \n\n\n\nGet tickets\n\n\n\nAbout the organiser: OffBeat was founded in 2022 by Mike Hankin and Rita Conry as a small film night for friends and has since grown into a wider project exploring what folk culture means today. \n\n\n\nThe project hosts regular events across London and in 2025 launched the first OffBeat Folk Film Festival\, a week of sold-out screenings\, talks and music featuring 48 contemporary films made across Britain. \n\n\n\nOffBeat began by sharing overlooked archive films about folk culture\, heritage and working life in the UK. Today\, the project continues to celebrate and connect the culture\, art and stories of everyday people\, offering a more inclusive and expansive picture of what it means to be British. \n\n\n\nYou can learn more about their upcoming 2026 Film Festival here: https://offbeat.film/obfff26

SUMMARY:Braiding Sweetgrass Reading Circle
DESCRIPTION:To celebrate the return of spring\, join us at SET Social for the Braiding Sweetgrass Reading Circle\, a small reading group exploring Robin Wall Kimmerer’s influential book Braiding Sweetgrass. \n\n\n\nMeeting every two weeks from 15 March to 24 May\, the circle invites participants to read and discuss the book together over tea in a relaxed and welcoming setting. Each session will focus on a different section of the text\, beginning with the introduction at the first meeting. \n\n\n\nDrawing on her life as an Indigenous scientist\, a mother and a woman\, Kimmerer explores how other living beings such as plants\, animals and ecosystems offer lessons about reciprocity\, care and responsibility. Through stories that move between ecology\, science and Indigenous knowledge\, the book explores our relationship with the earth and the importance of living in respectful kinship with the more-than-human world. \n\n\n\nThe reading circle will be a space to discuss these ideas together and reflect on how they might influence our daily lives. If gardeners attend\, the group may also explore ways to connect some of the book’s teachings with the SET Social Community Garden. \n\n\n\nOpen to anyone interested in nature\, gardening or anti-colonial perspectives on our relationship with the land. The group will remain small to allow space for discussion. \n\n\n\nTea will be provided. \n\n\n\nEvent details\n\n\n\nDates: Every two weeks from Sunday 15 March-24 MayTime: 4.30-6.30pmLocation: SET Social\, 55a Nigel Road\, Peckham SE15 4NPEntry: Free\, drop-in \n\n\n\nSessions will take place indoors around the tables in the main hall\, or outdoors in the garden when the weather allows. \n\n\n\nFacilitator and artwork: \n\n\n\nReading circle facilitated by @jadesrooomPoster artwork by @brog.de.mer \n\n\n\nPlease note: If you would like to join but are unable to purchase the book\, please contact the host at @jadesrooom.
