SUMMARY:Reclaiming the Narrative: Untold Stories
DESCRIPTION:SET studios will be sharing the untold stories of those that live and work in the London Borough of Royal Greenwich\, in response to the Black History Month theme for 2024 ‘reclaiming the narrative’. \n\n\n\nWe will be showcasing work that highlights the contribution the African and Caribbean communities in the Borough have made in shaping the cultural landscape of modern Britain. Working primarily with the stories\, memories and experiences of the local residents\, the work will also celebrate the contributions they have made to building a sense of place in the borough. \n\n\n\nThe showcase will explore themes around the history of the migration of the African and Caribbean communities into the borough\, collectively creating a living community archive where Black history is currently underrepresented across the UK. \n\n\n\nThis project\, entitled ‘Untold stories; reclaiming the narrative of Black British History through the voices of the people of Greenwich and the visual arts’ will see the visual work created by members of the local communities displayed on ‘The Big Screen’ in Gordon Square in the Woolwich town centre throughout May 2025. \n\n\n\nThis call out is open to local schools\, community groups and general members of the public who would like to share their memories and stories through the medium of song\, archive material\, photos\, animations\, videos\, and spoken poetry or written words. The Greenwich community can also submit words of what Black history means to them. Artists living and/or working in the borough are also welcome to share new or existing work in response to the theme. \n\n\n\nAlthough the work submitted does not need to be new\, however\, all work must be original. Therefore\, the submission must have the full copyright permission and clearance to screen the work. The work must also be suitable for pre-watershed viewing or otherwise be family friendly. \n\n\n\nSelect works will also be available to view on the SET website in June 2025 followed by a special curated evening of films at SET Woolwich in June 2025. The films shown will be by artists who are working across the themes of community\, belonging and connection. They will also reflect on the past\, present and future\, reclaiming the narratives that have led to the marginalisation of Black British communities. \n\n\n\nMore information on the film programme and Q&A to follow soon. Please follow us on Instagram for regular updates. \n\n\n\nPlease upload your completed entries here:  BH 365 Submission Form  \n\n\n\nIf you have any questions\, please email info@setspace.uk \n\n\n\nWe can support you with completing the submission form too. Just reach out using the contact details above or come to one of the advice sessions. We will consider multiple image submissions but only one video work no longer than 1 minute. \n\n\n\nThe Big Screen requires work to be ready to screen in a specific formats: \n\n\n\n\nVideos are landscape and HD (16:9 Aspect Ratio) and are provided as a ProRes or H264 file. The video will need to be exported as a .mov or .mp4 file\n\n\n\n Images at a minimum of 150 dpi – 1024 x 576 pixels. Photographs\, landscape Square is OK\n\n\n\nText has a maximum length of 125 words (to fit on the screen)\n\n\n\n\nSET Woolwich will be holding two advice and technical support drop-in sessions on the following dates: \n\n\n\n\nWednesday 15th January 2025 from 5pm – 7pm\n\n\n\nSaturday 18th January 2025 from 11am – 2pm\n\n\n\n\nSpaces are limited so please book here: Tech Support Session Booking \n\n\n\nAll entries must be made by someone over the age of 18 and submissions close on Friday 21st March 2025 at 5pm. \n\n\n\nThis project is funded by the Royal Borough of Greenwich

SUMMARY:Project Stage
DESCRIPTION:“This isn’t background noise❗ \n\n\n\nIt’s the main act — and it happens only once. \n\n\n\nOn May 9\, 6PM–9 PM \n\n\n\nLive performances take over the space — unfolding in rhythm\, light\, sound\, and presence. \n\n\n\nWhat sets dramatic performances\, films\, and visual art exhibitions apart? \n\n\n\nVisual art exhibitions offer freedom—you can wander\, pause\, skip. But works are passively displayed\, like objects in a room. Despite their diversity\, a distance grows between viewer and artwork. The creative impulse—whether spontaneous or deeply researched—often fades in the static setting. \n\n\n\nStarting from this observation\, we conceived the idea of Project Stage—a project that evolves over time. what happens when sound\, light\, moving images\, installations\, and live performances are activated sequentially\, like scenes in a theater—within the context of an exhibition space? \n\n\n\nThis is the question Project Stage seeks to explore. Through a series of timed activations\, shifting atmospheres\, and evolving spatial arrangements\, we treat the exhibition space not as a static container but as a temporal stage. \n\n\n\nAfter that? \n\n\n\nFrom May 10 to 30  \n\n\n\nMonday to Friday 12PM to 6PM \n\n\n\nWorkshops\, screenings\, fragments coming soon.” \n\n\n\nArtist: \n\n\n\nAbbie Coombs @abbie_coombs_\, Fan Bangyu @fan_bangyu\, Jorge Jobim  @jor.graphy\, Liangqi Yao @liangqibabe\, Miya Kosowick Mawatari @miyakmawatari\, Roman Sheppard Dawson @romanshepdaw\, Sarah Duffy @sarahcduffy\, Sara Sternberg @merda_seca\, Joe Smith @joepeter.sm \n\n\n\nAlso featured are sound artists: \n\n\n\nEngin Eskici @dj_baklava\, Hamish Ford\, Henry Glover @hgglover \, Xiaowan Yi @jazzy_yi\, Xixi Wang @xixiwang_2024 \n\n\n\nCurator: \n\n\n\nMengmeng Luo @modalism12138\, karl Xinghao Liang @liangxinghao48 \n\n\n\nThe exhibition is organised by new arts group The Afterpiece.

Stockton’s work explains how a queer child grows in non-linear paths towards non-conventional futures. The Queer Child is a space for FLINTA artists to exhibit the work of their inner queer child\, platforming queer stories within an artistic and political climate which does not prioritise us. \n\n\n\nMoving forwards\, Growing Sideways Projects hope to form a valuable community of FLINTA creatives\, engaging in continuous action and providing support for all queer artists. \n\n\n\nPlease come along to the Private View to mark the beginning of the Growing Sideways community!Allies welcome 🙂 \n\n\n\nArtists:Judy Maxwell-McNicol @weemoodyjudyLucinda Purkis @kingkingstringball442Alice Bunny North @alicebunnynorthBee Jones @motionmothTom Perks @tomperkksBeth Carriaga @bethcnieMarf Summers @marfsummersFio Brooks @fiobrx.studioElise Tyson @elize___greenFederica Giare @fede.ph__Laura Xinyue Zhou @lauraaaxinyueCharlotte Young @charlotte_louiseyoungPhoebe Rayner @phoeberayner_Jingshan Ding @shanshanshan_333_333Flavia Daniel @flaviaaartJingyi Li @1999jingyiliKate Williams Parry @dyslexix_ariesClaire McMichael @achillmicecreamCat Needs @catneeds__Jessé Bürgel @jessenothoughtsNancy Costello\, Tomislav Latinovic + choir (Voicing 1 project) @nancyr0isin @tomizlav \n\n\n\nCurated by Cat Needs and Jessé Bürgel@catneeds__ @jessenothoughts
