SUMMARY:Ordinary Ornamentation: Ceramic Tile Workshop with Alice Aldis at SET Social
DESCRIPTION:Designer Alice Aldis invites participants to explore overlooked everyday textures through clay.In this hands-on workshop\, you’ll create a decorative tile or coaster using air-dry clay and found patterns. Bring your own textured objects\, or choose from a selection provided. Together\, you’ll experiment with the often unnoticed surfaces that surround us\, pressing them into clay to form subtle impressions and decorative forms. \n\n\n\nAbout the Designer \n\n\n\nAlice Aldis is a multidisciplinary designer working across ceramics\, ornamentation and process-led practice. Her recent project\, Ordinary Ornamentation\, exhibited at Copeland Park in Peckham\, explores a shift away from traditional ideas of ornament. From embossed toilet paper to the patterns inside security envelopes\, Alice’s work draws attention to quiet\, functional details—and how they can shape new ways of thinking about decoration. \n\n\n\nThis workshop builds on those discoveries\, inviting a closer look at the textures of everyday life. \n\n\n\nTickets are completely free. Book now via Outsavvy. \n\n\n\nBook now

SUMMARY:Turncoats: End the Era of Biennales?
DESCRIPTION:Hundreds of biennales now flood the global design\, architecture\, and art worlds with under-funded\, often impenetrable events. Frequently more focused on press than participants\, these grandiose platforms dress up poorly paid trade shows with a veneer of glamour. \n\n\n\nThe most recent Venice Biennale\, for example\, resembled a tech-bro fever dream bristling with AI-generated exhibits and corporate sponsorships. Other biennales are little better\, relying on contributors to forgo workers’ rights to turn abstract themes into mediocre curatorial spectacles with minimal wider impact. \n\n\n\nIs it time to end the era of international art and architecture festivals? Join us at Set Social for a debate blending comedy\, argument\, and vodka. \n\n\n\nSpeakers/performers\n\n\n\n\nLee Ivett (chair)\, Baxendale and Head of the Grenfell-Baines Institute of Architecture in Preston @_baxendale (@lsofarch)\n\n\n\nZarina Muhammad\, White Pube and co-author of Poor Artists @zarinamuhammad (@thewhitepube)\n\n\n\nMeneesha Kellay\, Senior Curator at the V&A and co-curator of the 2023 British Pavilion at the Venice Biennale @mishkk\n\n\n\nCurator at Cosmic House @misanthropocene\n\n\n\nSmith Mordak\, Chief curator of the 2019 Oslo Architecture Triennale and former CEO of the UK Green Building Council\, @smithmordak\n\n\n\nComedian @charliepartridgecomedy\n\n\n\n\nCurated by: Phineas Harper @phinharpe\, Deepika Upadhyaya @deepikaupadhyaya\, Lucas Facer @lucalucalucasluca\, and Smith Mordak @smithmordak. \n\n\n\nTurncoats is presented in partnership with the Future Architects Front and Architecture Foundation. \n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\nTickets range from £8-£15. SUMMARY:Collective Story Construction Workshop
DESCRIPTION:As part of the Look at This If You Love Me exhibition at SET Lewisham\, join artists Fidelia Schlegl and Elisa Terranera for a collaborative workshop exploring narrative and experimental drawing and painting on cardboard boxes. \n\n\n\nThe session begins with a playful writing game to generate absurd and funny short stories. Participants then translate these tales into visual narratives on primed cardboard boxes\, considering the boxes as 3D comic panels or modular story elements. Together\, the group will experiment with stacking\, rearranging\, and connecting the boxes to form dynamic\, interactive story structures. \n\n\n\nAll materials are provided\, though participants are encouraged to bring their own acrylic paints and brushes. Some materials may be messy\, so wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty\, and bring warm layers as the space may be chilly. \n\n\n\nThe workshop is suitable for all ages and skill levels. For access requirements or enquiries\, please email schlegl.fidelia@gmail.com in advance. \n\n\n\nBook your free ticket
