SUMMARY:An Afternoon of Performances on 4th Floor Exhibition Space
DESCRIPTION:This evening is an exploration of the diverse kinds of relationships one can have to the world by means of our bodies and our different senses. 5 of the 10 artists in “De\, desde\, en\, entre\, hacia” will perform unique proposals and promise to deliver a multi-sensorial experience. \n\n\n\nThis is a pay what you can event. Link to tickets here. \n\n\n\nLine-Up: \n\n\n\n2:00pm-2:45pm:Haptic Chant  (Rebeca Romero) \n\n\n\n3:00pm-3:45pm:Association for caressing the caressable  (Lucía R) \n\n\n\n4:00pm-4:45pm:Collective kneading of arepas + poetry recitation(José García Oliva) \n\n\n\n5:00pm-5:45pm:Sonified textiles (Paola Torres Núñez del Prado) \n\n\n\n6:00pm-6:45pm:Experimental sound concert  (Carolina Vélez Muñiz) \n\n\n\nMore Information: \n\n\n\n1. Haptic Chant : Inspired by the use of ‘Icaros’\, medicine\, magic songs sung by shamans in South America during Ayahuasca ceremonies\, Rebeca Romero’s fired-clay installation is activated through the use of a mixing console\, pedal\, microphone and an analog synthesiser. She seeks to “free” the voices of these objects\, utilizing the chant as a connection device. \n\n\n\n2. Association for caressing the caressable: A clay installation conceived by Lucía R composed of performatic actions in regards to the “caress” as a form of minuscule resistance. It integrates sounds and touch\, and asks for the public’s active participation. \n\n\n\n3. Collective kneading of Arepas + poetry recitation: Arepas are the slices of bread of this Venezuela without bread. The action of making arepas abroad approximates a physical and emotional nostalgia with corn flavour. José García Oliva summons both amateurs and experienced arepa-makers to knead the dough collectively\, while talking about the social and political dimensions of this culinary tradition. We will recite Roxana Crisólogo’s Widow Arepa poem\, which was written in response to Oliva’s piece. At the end of the performance\, attendees will get to take the dough home. \n\n\n\n4. Sonified textiles: The textile controllers utilized by Paola Torres Núñez del Prado for this performance are both works of art and devices that fall within the scope of Smart Textiles and innovate in the discipline of Human-Computer Interaction. Referring to forms of expression and thought that are not of Western heritage\, its design proposes another approach to technology\, where it is common to find devices made of metal or plastic\, both in conventional electronic sound presentations and in more experimental ones. \n\n\n\n5. Experimental sound concert: One of Carolina Vélez Muñiz’s area of expertise is textiles but she has also ventured into the experimental sound realm and has constructed her own sound systems\, which she will use in this performance. She has invited Enrique Arriaga\, also an experimental sound artist from Mexico\, to collaborate on this occasion.

SUMMARY:Drag Bingo
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Thursday 15 June at SET Social for a night of bingo and performances with @barbs.co.uk and @jane.norman.official! \n\n\n\nIt takes balls to do Bingo. Jane Norman and Barbs have the best balls in the business. If you’re a fan of glamorous stupidity they know how to put on a show. \n\n\n\nOver the festive period SET Woolwich experienced a major break-in resulting in the theft of valuable artwork and equipment. We’re hosting a fundraiser to try to help our community recoup some of the losses and all proceeds will go to the artists affected. \n\n\n\nOrganised by @not_that_iainnocent & SET \n\n\n\nPoster by on_a_danward_spiral \n\n\n\nBingo books are included in the ticket price. Performances from 7pm\, bingo starts at 7.30pm followed by DJing with requests x

SUMMARY:Clay Reincarnations Workshop
DESCRIPTION:This workshop seeks to teach children to make their own “power amulets” made of clay. These objects serve both to protect and to empower. The artist\, Aileen Gavonel\, will speak to them about the importance of establishing a corporeal connection to the clay they will be working with\, since it entails a certain respect towards the earth. The children will learn to “listen” to the clay and to create magical objects based on what the material tells them it wants to become. \n\n\n\nIt is not necessary to bring any materials. Children must be accompanied by someone 16 years old or above. \n\n\n\nThe workshop will be taught both in English and in Spanish.

Abril Ríos will share some preliminary findings from the doctoral research digging into women migrants’ processes of empowerment and decision-making\, particularly in Tapachula\, Tijuana and Mexico City. SUMMARY:Social Dreaming
DESCRIPTION:Come down to SET Social and grab a coffee or a tea over conversations about dreams! \n\n\n\nBased off the theory of the ‘social dream matrix’\, this meet-up invites you to come together to discuss the social meanings behind our dreams. \n\n\n\nA message from the dream team: \n\n\n\nIn the first half of the session\, someone shall begin by discussing a dream they have had\, and another person will make a connection to a dream they have had\, and so on.  Over the second half we will try to draw a communal thread and interpretation of what our dreams may mean socially and collectively. NB: We do not interpret dreams on an individual level (i.e. for the individual dreamer) but we try to see what social connections we are able to make between our dreams. Curiosity\, sensitivity and openness is required!

SUMMARY:De\, desde\, en\, entre\, hacia…
DESCRIPTION:“De\, desde\, en\, entre\, hacia…” is an exhibition that takes its name from the most common prepositions in the Spanish language\, which are used as departure points to explore the ways in which a body can relate to the world. The exhibition brings together the work of 10 Latin American artists hailing from Peru\, Mexico\, Venezuela\, Brazil and Colombia\, whose artistic practice revolves around identity construction processes at a transterritorial level. The exhibition will have an accompanying public programme that will seek to deepen the affective\, social\, cultural\, economic and political dimensions of the migrant body\, the non-hegemonic body\, the other-body. \n\n\n\nThroughout the month\, we will invite you to eat\, dance\, cook\, draw\, write\, converse… with the aim of providing a broad and complex vision of what being “Latinx” is or can be. We hope to open up gathering spaces where we can exchange and share knowledge and experiences\, for it is in this way that we will be able to qualify this thorny concept of identity. Check the programme section of our website for a full list of upcoming events.

SUMMARY:custard SPLITS
DESCRIPTION:A group show of work by Julie Brixey-Williams\, Jo Chate\, Sarah Dwyer and Cait Luke-Kelly. Part of the Ealing Open Studios. \n\n\n\nPV: Wednesday 24 May\, 6-9pm \n\n\n\nOpen: 25 May – 4 June\, Wednesday – Sunday 12-5pm \n\n\n\nAt the moment when Custard Splits\, clotted solids coalesce into new forms and liberated liquid spills more readily into the cracks\, creating an imaginative swivel. Intelligibility is subsequently paused to create an ‘adjacent possible’; a term used to describe a state of untapped potential that exists via porous points of possibility.  \n\n\n\nFeaturing a range of scales and materials\, Custard Splits collages these leaky moments into a playful dialogue of unravelling fantasy & reality\, inviting us to grope in the gaps.
