SUMMARY:Revolutionary Communist Party Open Meeting at SET Social
DESCRIPTION:The world feels like it’s shifting fast. What does it mean\, and what comes next? \n\n\n\n2026 has started with a bang: Nicolás Maduro has been kidnapped by US imperialism; ICE continues its murderous rampage in American cities; the Iranian working class faces a new wave of repression from its ruling class; and the whole British state has been exposed at every level. The so-called “rules-based world order” is crumbling before our eyes. People across the world are asking why this is happening—and what role ordinary people can play in shaping what comes next. \n\n\n\nThe Revolutionary Communists of Peckham invite you to an open meeting at SET Social to discuss these questions collectively. The session will explore current global events\, the role of imperialism and state power\, and the potential for working-class movements to respond to ongoing crises. \n\n\n\nThis is an opportunity to meet others interested in revolutionary politics\, share perspectives\, and engage with ideas around socialist transformation and international solidarity. \n\n\n\nWhether you are new to political organising or already involved\, all are welcome to attend and join the discussion. \n\n\n\nWorkers of the world unite. \n\n\n\nEvent details\n\n\n\nDate: Sunday 15 FebruaryTime: 4pmLocation: SET Social\, Peckham\, 55a Nigel Road\, SE15 4NPTicketing/registration: Free\, no registration required.

Courtesy of the artist.Images: Leprous\, Ben Raz (2025)\, oil on canvas\, 100 x 150cm. Part of the ‘Spores’ exhibition. Courtesy of the artist.\n\n\n\nSpores brings together a body of work exploring natural processes\, cycles\, and the shifting dynamics of meaning\, function\, and language. Across a series of landscape paintings\, nature emerges not as a passive backdrop but as an active\, adaptive presence. Paths\, clearings\, and subtle traces of occupation appear throughout\, yet growth\, erosion\, and seasonal rhythms continuously reshape what remains. These landscapes become sites of quiet tension\, where imposed order and organic change intersect\, dissolve\, and transform over time. \n\n\n\nAt the centre of the exhibition stands a raised root cellar structure\, functioning as both artefact and monument. Traditionally designed to preserve food under controlled subterranean conditions\, the structure is removed from its original context\, repositioned within the gallery\, and wrapped in archived exhibition texts. \n\n\n\nBuilt using only a single cross-sectional diagram as reference\, the cellar is deliberately misinterpreted\, exposing an interior logic intended to explain function while remaining unusable in practice. Nearby\, lanterns removed from their holders and rendered redundant by the gallery’s light operate as imperfect repetitions of a familiar form\, suggesting an absent action. The work foregrounds systems of preservation—temporal\, architectural\, and cultural—and the instability that arises when these systems are displaced from their intended purpose. \n\n\n\nTogether\, the works reflect on transience\, obsolescence\, and endurance. In Spores\, nature preserves itself through decay and renewal\, revealing transformation through instability. Figures in many of the landscapes are partially absorbed by darkness\, while the lanterns lie abandoned\, their utility uncertain. Through these shifts between visibility and concealment\, function and failure\, the exhibition highlights the gradual erosion of authority in both structures and ideas. \n\n\n\nExhibition details\n\n\n\nDates: 11-28 FebruaryOpening: 11 February\, 6-9pmLocation: Unit 1\, Lewisham Retail Park\, Loampit Vale\, London SE13 7RZAdmission: Free \n\n\n\nThe exhibition will be viewable by appointment only except for the opening. \n\n\n\nContact:benraz95@gmail.comtarzankingofthejungle123@gmail.com \n\n\n\nContributing artists\n\n\n\nTarzan Kingofthejungle\nWebsite: tarzankingofthejungle.comInstagram: @tarzan_kingofthejungle \n\n\n\nBased in London\, Tarzan Kingofthejungle (b. 1998) works works across film\, sculpture\, performance\, and writing. His practice involves constructing scenes from borrowed elements—props\, lines\, symbols\, or characters—isolated and stripped of their original contexts\, such as a discarded lantern\, a lens flare\, or a soundtrack. Through dismantling\, manipulating\, and rearranging these fragments\, he explores how meaning shifts and emerges through narrative potential and residue. \n\n\n\nRecent exhibitions include Metropolis (curated by Jacob Sirkin)\, Greatorex St\, London; Alpine XP\, Plicnik Space Initiative; Reset Atelier\, Brussels; Planned Obsolescence\, Seager Gallery\, London; Log 2: NovoStruct Hard Hat Area\, Plicnik Space Initiative; Half Truths (curated by Vanessa Murrell)\, London; OTO (Lux Moving Image\, RCA)\, Fold\, London. \n\n\n\n\nBen Raz\nWebsite: www.benraz.orgInstagram: @benr.az \n\n\n\nBen Raz (b. 1995) lives and works in London. He graduated from the Slade School of Art in 2021. Raz’s paintings synthesise varied interests\, experiences\, observations\, and imaginings\, engaging themes of desire\, the clandestine\, the sublime\, and modern decadence. These ideas are reinforced through the coalescence of disparate images and information. \n\n\n\nMany of the paintings are characterised by ambiguity and a lack of clarity; Raz is interested in how an image can simultaneously reveal and withhold meaning. \n\n\n\nRecent exhibitions include presentations at Bolding Gallery\, Pusher Gallery\, Xxijra Hii\, and Hew Hood Gallery. \n\n\n\n\nAbout SET’s Associate Members Programme\n\n\n\nThis exhibition is presented as part of SET’s Associate Members Programme\, which offers artists studio space alongside access to project spaces and opportunities to independently curate exhibitions\, workshops\, and events. \n\n\n\nThe programme supports a wide range of practices\, from performance and installation to music\, sound\, print\, and textiles\, and is designed to provide space\, visibility\, and development opportunities for early-career and underrepresented artists working in London.

Drawing tips are available for anyone who wants them\, and participants are always welcome to bring their own materials. Please note that sessions often include nudity\, and are therefore open to participants aged 18+ only. \n\n\n\nThere will be a short break during the session\, with drinks available at the bar. \n\n\n\nEvent details\n\n\n\nDate: Wednesday 28 JanuaryTime: 7-9pm (with a break)Tickets: £12 (plus booking fee)\, available via Eventbrite \n\n\n\nBook tickets\n\n\n\nAbout the organiser: \n\n\n\nThese sessions are hosted by Peckham Life Drawing\, a project that curates inclusive life drawing events designed to bring people together through creative collaboration. \n\n\n\nThe sessions are facilitated by Peckham-based artist Lucie Russell (MA RCA)\, whose practice explores collective making and experimental approaches to drawing. \n\n\n\nFollow along on Instagram at @peckham.LifeDrawing

SUMMARY:The World Shakes Out Her Sheets - SET 91 Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:The World Shakes Out Her Sheets is SET 91’s fifth and penultimate exhibition within its six-month curated programme. Curated by Isobel Harper\, the exhibition brings works by Nicola Organ\, Rhian Harris-Mussi\, Kes Wilkie\, and Freddie Wise\, presented in dialogue with a commissioned text by artist and writer Sophie Wright. \n\n\n\nBringing together practices that reflect on landscape\, environment and speculative forms of world-building\, the exhibition explores how image\, text and material intersect. Seen through panes of engraved glass etched with fragments of Wright’s text in Harper’s distinctive letterform\, the works shift with light and shadow\, inviting viewers to move between looking and reading. \n\n\n\nAbout the exhibition\n\n\n\nThe World Shakes Out Her Sheets brings together works by four artists whose practices are united by processes of uncanny world-building. Across the exhibition\, there is a shared sense of play with space\, perspective and scale\, unsettling familiar worlds and translating them into disquieting visual languages. Human systems\, structures and machinery appear alongside strange natural phenomena\, suggesting environments that hover somewhere between science fiction and the otherworldly.  \n\n\n\nAt the centre of the exhibition is Wright’s commissioned text\, written in response to a conversation that reflected on the shared sensibility running through the four practices. Rather than offering explanation\, Wright’s text functions as a kind of poetic distillation\, drawing out the common threads of estrangement\, curiosity\, and speculative possibility. Etched into the glass that frames each work\, the text becomes a material presence that subtly reconfigures perception through light and shadow.  \n\n\n\nText\, glass and image form a layered encounter in which meaning is continually deferred and reshaped. The exhibition proposes the engraved glass as a conscious lens – one that mediates the relationship between viewer and artwork\, while inviting an attentive navigation of these strange and mystical worlds. In doing so\, The World Shakes Out Her Sheets proposes a way of looking that is open to uncertainty\, and to the possibility that these works may be addressed not only to human viewers\, but to something beyond us.  \n\n\n\nDetails\n\n\n\nPublic opening event: Friday 16 January\, 6-9pm Dates: 17 January – 1 February Gallery hours: Thursday – Sunday\, 1-6pm Location: 91 Tabernacle Street\, Old Street\, London\, EC2A 4JNAdmission: Free \n\n\n\nPoster design: Callum Bridge (@ellery3000)
