Most of all\, I loved how tenderly it portrays the love and friendship between a group of young boys in Luton who are often portrayed as misfits. Seven years later\, the movement has weathered the expansion of state repression and violence\, successive COVID-19 lockdowns\, economic collapse\, and the intensification of U.S. and British imperialist aggression across the world. \n\n\n\nEnergy Embargo for Palestine is convening a summit for all those committed to fighting for a just future to discuss: what is left of the climate movement?  \n\n\n\nThis one-day event features panels from leading organisers across Britain reflecting on whether the climate movement should be reignited\, the form the movement has and should take\, and how it should respond to some of the most pressing concerns faced by people today: the rising cost of living\, Britain’s role in U.S.-led imperialism and participation in the genocide in Gaza\, and the climate crisis. \n\n\n\nWhat to expect\n\n\n\nThrough interactive workshops\, panels\, and a final collaborative assembly\, attendees will work together to shape next steps\, expand the remit of climate organising\, and learn how to embed eco-socialist and anti-imperialist principles into their existing work and campaign strategies. \n\n\n\nAttendee information\n\n\n\n\nWho’s this event for: Designed for anyone engaged with climate and social justice issues. Equally interested in examining the impact of materiality and context\, the two artists present works that isolate phrases from their original surroundings to offer up new readings. \n\n\n\nBright presents a series of figurative mosaic facades that explore the limits of the written word and trace how our relationship with text shifts as it passes from one context to another. \n\n\n\nEason Daniels’ work is concerned with collection and permanence. Using cameras as tools to document\, suspend and repeat\, he presents a series of darkroom prints made from fragments of text sliced from years of collected negatives. DESCRIPTION:After a short pause\, we’re pleased to announce that Soft Ground will be recommencing on 31 July until 11 September 2026. \n\n\n\nSoft Ground is a programme of free weekly drop-in textile-based art sessions designed to support mental wellbeing through creativity\, routine\, and communal making. Drawing from neurodivergent practices and trauma-informed methodologies\, these sessions are open to everyone\, with a particularly warm welcome extended to neurodivergent participants. \n\n\n\nThe programme offers a gentle\, sensory-aware\, and low-pressure environment where you can engage with textile processes at your own pace\, using tactile making as a tool for self-soothing\, co-regulation\, and creative exploration. \n\n\n\nFor this next chapter\, we’re joined by textile artists Sue Mayo and Jenny McIlhatton\, who will each lead a series of mindful\, relaxing workshops using recycled materials and fashion waste. \n\n\n\nSessions follow a consistent weekly format designed to create structure and accessibility\, particularly for those who experience anxiety\, sensory overload\, or social isolation. While the programme centres neurodivergent experiences\, it is open to anyone in the local community interested in creativity as a pathway to wellbeing. \n\n\n\nThe programme will be taking place every Friday from 2-4pm at SET Social. Please note that there will be no session on 21st August. Participants will also create images and poems by cutting\, rearranging and reworking magazines and newspapers. The sessions will focus on making\, sharing and connecting materials\, with the aim of creating decorations for the body\, the home and public spaces. The workshops are designed to be welcoming and flexible\, allowing participants to join in at their own pace\, take breaks when needed\, and make work for themselves and others. \n\n\n\nJenny McIlhatton\n\n\n\n14\, 28 August\, 4 and 11 September (2-4pm)Jenny is an artist specialising in textiles\, with a background in fashion\, repurposing fashion waste and found objects in her practice. All the materials used throughout the workshops come from fashion industry waste. The playful samples of stitching and weaving produced across the sessions will help participants explore how processes of restoration can enhance beauty. You’ll start in the garden at 2pm\, gathering leaves and botanicals before moving into the basics: exposing prints\, experimenting with textures\, and learning through making. \n\n\n\nThis is beginner-friendly workshop\, so no prior experience is required\, and you’ll be able to take home a set of your own original prints. The workshop aims to begin with the individual and address the gap between what we are told we must be\, and who we actually are.  \n\n\n\nCome for 2 hours where rage is not shamed\, but in fact encouraged. Attendees are encouraged to jump into the deep end\, not knowing what the consequences of their rage may be\, but understanding that their right to express it is theirs. \n\n\n\nYou’ll write\, speak\, share and feel without judgement\, expressing feelings that have been deemed unacceptable or inconvenient.  \n\n\n\nThis session is completely free and open to everyone. The first iteration of the exhibition series was presented as part of Central Saint Martins’ 2023 degree show\, and the second was held at Hypha Studios in 2024. The upcoming exhibition will take place in SET Vauxhall’s project space on the 16th Floor as part of the SET Associate Members’ Programme\, with Dani Smith joining the curatorial team to develop the exhibition alongside the project’s founders. \n\n\n\nThe exhibition draws on posthuman thought through material\, bodily\, and ecological thinking\, considering the tension between organic and inorganic matter\, as well as human and nonhuman agency. It resists fixed hierarchies and binaries\, instead foregrounding entanglement\, instability\, and transformation. \n\n\n\nThis iteration places particular emphasis on materiality as a means of exploring these ideas. Through sensorial encounters and processes of material transformation\, the exhibition considers how materials themselves shape perception\, atmosphere\, and our relationships to bodies\, landscapes\, and ecological systems. \n\n\n\nRather than positioning landscape as a passive backdrop to human experience\, the exhibition considers landscape and body as mutually constitutive: porous\, shifting\, and continually shaping one another. Organic forms\, found materials\, and processes of transformation foreground the permeability between self and environment\, inviting audiences to consider how bodies are embedded within wider ecological systems. In doing so\, the exhibition offers temporary moments of displacement from everyday modes of perception\, encouraging visitors to inhabit spaces of ritual\, contemplation\, and imaginative possibility. \n\n\n\nWhile these ideas provide a conceptual framework for the exhibition\, they are intended as points of departure rather than fixed themes. We are interested in how each participating artist approaches these ideas through their own material language and practice\, and we welcome diverse interpretations that expand\, challenge\, or complicate the exhibition’s ongoing conversation. \n\n\n\nContributing artists\n\n\n\nDani Smith\nDani Smith is a visual artist working across painting\, drawing\, video and installation. MAP works for a future where every Palestinian has access to a comprehensive\, effective\, and locally-led system of healthcare\, and the full realisation of their rights to health and dignity. \n\n\n\nTo achieve this\, they work in collaboration with Palestinian communities and trusted local partners to answer a wide range of health and social needs\, from providing vital medical aid in emergencies to supporting the development of better health services for the long term.
