SUMMARY:Soft Ground: Textiles and Self-Soothing Workshop Series
DESCRIPTION:Soft Ground is a four-month programme of free weekly drop-in textile-based art sessions\, designed to support mental wellbeing through creativity\, routine\, and communal making. \n\n\n\nDrawing from neurodivergent practices and trauma-informed methodologies\, the sessions are open to all\, with a particular welcome extended to neurodivergent participants. The programme offers a gentle\, sensory-aware environment where participants can engage with textile processes at their own pace\, using tactile making as a tool for self-soothing\, co-regulation\, and creative exploration. \n\n\n\nEach two-hour session is led by a rotating group of women artists recognised for their inclusive practices and lived experience of neurodivergence: Kim Chin\, Birungi Kawooya\, Sue Mayo\, and Jenny McIlhatton. Participants are invited to drop in\, try different approaches to textile making\, and take part in a supportive communal space focused on reducing isolation\, building trust\, and nurturing emotional wellbeing. \n\n\n\nSessions follow a consistent weekly format designed to create structure and accessibility\, particularly for those who experience anxiety\, sensory overload\, or social isolation. While the programme centres neurodivergent experiences\, it is open to anyone in the local community interested in creativity as a pathway to wellbeing. \n\n\n\nAll sessions take place at SET Social\, our arts and social club in Peckham. Each session concludes with refreshments\, creating a relaxed environment for conversation and connection. \n\n\n\nEvent details\n\n\n\nDates: Every Friday\, from 20 February – 5 JuneTimes: 2-4pmWhere: SET Social\, 55a Nigel Road\, Peckham\, SE15 4NPTicketing/registration: All workshops are free\, available to book via Eventbrite. \n\n\n\nBook ticket\n\n\n\nProgramme credits \n\n\n\nCurated by Sylvia Keck\, Community Engagement Curator at Looking Forward.Realised in partnership with SET and with support from the National Lottery Community Fund. \n\n\n\nAbout the organiser: Founded in 2019\, Looking Forward works internationally across contemporary art\, design\, and socially engaged practices. SUMMARY:Occupations of Uninhabited Space 02: No Data Plan with Miko Revereza

SUMMARY:Braiding Sweetgrass Reading Circle
DESCRIPTION:To celebrate the return of spring\, join us at SET Social for the Braiding Sweetgrass Reading Circle\, a small reading group exploring Robin Wall Kimmerer’s influential book Braiding Sweetgrass. \n\n\n\nMeeting every two weeks from 15 March to 24 May\, the circle invites participants to read and discuss the book together over tea in a relaxed and welcoming setting. Each session will focus on a different section of the text\, beginning with the introduction at the first meeting. \n\n\n\nDrawing on her life as an Indigenous scientist\, a mother and a woman\, Kimmerer explores how other living beings such as plants\, animals and ecosystems offer lessons about reciprocity\, care and responsibility. Through stories that move between ecology\, science and Indigenous knowledge\, the book explores our relationship with the earth and the importance of living in respectful kinship with the more-than-human world. \n\n\n\nThe reading circle will be a space to discuss these ideas together and reflect on how they might influence our daily lives. If gardeners attend\, the group may also explore ways to connect some of the book’s teachings with the SET Social Community Garden. \n\n\n\nOpen to anyone interested in nature\, gardening or anti-colonial perspectives on our relationship with the land. SUMMARY:SET 91 Open Series – A PATCH Sunday Salon
DESCRIPTION:SET 91 continues the Open Series with A PATCH Sunday Salon\, an exhibition and live programme led by PATCH\, an interdisciplinary collective working across architecture\, art and research. Bringing together works by the collective and its members\, the exhibition explores diasporic experiences of the city and considers how architecture can be understood through alternative\, community-led lenses. \n\n\n\nThe exhibition presents a retrospective of PATCH’s past projects alongside new work currently in development by the collective’s founders. Through sculpture\, photography\, publications and painting\, the programme reflects on themes that have shaped PATCH’s practice to date\, from food and the act of holding space to the evolving notion of home. \n\n\n\nAlongside the exhibition\, the programme will include a live talk and Q&A reflecting on some of PATCH’s past projects\, as well as a conversational salon returning to themes of home and holding space\, asking how diasporic communities can be centred within fast-paced metropolitan environments in ways that are tangible\, supportive and meaningful. \n\n\n\nWhy this matters\n\n\n\nIn the context of ongoing gentrification\, displacement and urban redevelopment\, particularly in London\, diasporic and marginalised communities are often disproportionately affected. This session responds to these conditions by opening up space for collective reflection and discussion. \n\n\n\nThrough participatory conversations\, the event aim to cultivate an atmosphere of empowerment\, collective consciousness-raising\, and a way of learning how architecture might be perceived differently.  \n\n\n\nWho’s it for?\n\n\n\nThis session is open to artists\, architects\, spatial practitioners and those interested in the intersections of community\, identity and the built environment. \n\n\n\nIt will be particularly useful for those exploring or developing work around: \n\n\n\n\nDiaspora and urban experience\n\n\n\nArchitecture and spatial justice\n\n\n\nInterdisciplinary and socially engaged practices\n\n\n\n\nWhat to expect\n\n\n\nThe session will include: \n\n\n\n\nAn exhibition of sculpture\, photography and painting\n\n\n\nInteractive and installation-based work\n\n\n\nA live talk and Q&A with PATCH\n\n\n\nSalon-style discussions exploring themes of home and holding space\n\n\n\n\nParticipants will have the opportunity to engage with the work\, contribute to discussion\, and reflect on shared experiences and ideas. \n\n\n\nWhat you’ll takeaway\n\n\n\nParticipants will leave with: \n\n\n\n\nInsight into PATCH’s interdisciplinary approach to architecture and art\n\n\n\nA deeper understanding of diasporic perspectives on the city\n\n\n\nNew ways of thinking about space\, community and belonging\n\n\n\nOpportunities for discussion and connection with others\n\n\n\n\nEvent details\n\n\n\nDate: 12 AprilArrival: 4:30pmSession time: 5-7pmLocation: SET 91\, 91 Tabernacle Street\, Old Street\, London\, EC2A 4JN \n\n\n\nThis event is free to attend and open to all\, although attendance from early-career artists and practitioners is particularly encouraged.   \n\n\n\nYou book your free ticket via Outsavvy below.  \n\n\n\nBook a free spot\n\n\n\nAs places are limited\, we kindly ask that you only book if you are able to attend so that others who would benefit from the session are able to take part.  \n\n\n\nIf you can no longer attend\, please contact us at ninetyone@setspace.uk to cancel your ticket so the space can be offered to someone else.  \n\n\n\nAbout the facilitator\n\n\n\nTeshome Douglas-Campbell is an architectural designer\, journalist\, artist and educator\, and co-founder of PATCH. SUMMARY:SET Stage Gallery – Softer/Harder
DESCRIPTION:Social’s SET Stage Gallery presents Softer Harder\, a performance night and exhibition examining female sexuality and desire. \n\n\n\nThe exhibition considers how women are reclaiming their bodies and sexualities in a digital-first world. Inspired by millennial and Gen Z adolescence shaped by nights on Omegle\, reading erotica on Wattpad\, and reposting lewd gifs on Tumblr\, it offers an intimate and often humorous exploration of digital culture and sex. \n\n\n\nEvent details\n\n\n\nPublic opening night and performance: Friday 17 April\, 6-10pmExhibition run: Friday 17 April – Sunday 19 April\, 2-8pmLocation: SET Stage Gallery\, 55a Nigel Road\, Peckham\, SE15 4NPTickets: \n\n\n\n\nEarly Bird – £6.13 \n\n\n\nGeneral – £8.30\n\n\n\n\nBook tickets\n\n\n\nExhibiting visual artists\n\n\n\nAarony Bailey\nAarony Bailey is a filmmaker and photographer based in South London. Through an honest and intimate lens\, Bailey uses the camera to capture semi-autobiographical narratives surrounding femininity and sexuality\, looking at the complexities of womanhood and the female body. Her honest and nostalgic explorations of intimacy\, both platonic and romantic\, invite the viewer to indulge in their own voyeurism\, unpacking the nuances of shame and desire. \n\n\n\nShe materialises her work through the use of analogue film\, specifically super 8\, 16mm\, and 35mm\, as well as using various other vintage methods of image capture and production\, such as polaroid photography and risograph printing. \n\n\n\n\nLily Bunney\nLily Bunney is a London-based artist whose work explores the intersection of vulnerability and digital consumption. Bunney’s process and aesthetic is key to reading her work. Inspired by the interwoven history of the computer and the jacquard loom\, her pointillist drawings play with the analogue and the digital; offering work which looks hyper-digital on the screen\, and tactile in person. \n\n\n\nHer practice investigates how we construct and witness our own stories in an age of overwhelming narrative abundance\, particularly examining the ways we use social media and popular culture. \n\n\n\n\nCharlie Henzi\nBorn in 2001\, Seattle\, USA\, Charlie Henzi grew up in the UK just outside of London. In 2023\, she graduated from Central Saint Martins\, UAL. She recently received her Masters in Contemporary Art Practise (2024) at the Royal College of Art. She is fascinated by images of women in popular culture\, the gaze\, the performed female\, consumption and consumerism. After studying visual codes and language for years\, she now creates works that draw directly from this and her personal experiences\, that comment on the current zeitgeist. \n\n\n\n\nPerformance artists\, readers\, and poets\n\n\n\nFopé Ajanaku\, Tara Baukovic\, Chloe Borthwick\, Daisy Norris\, Sabirin Osobole\, Maricel Reinhard \n\n\n\nAbout SET Stage Gallery\n\n\n\nLaunched in 2023\, SET Stage Gallery is a volunteer-led\, non-profit contemporary art space based at SET Social. SUMMARY:This Might Be The Place: Collage and Blackout Poetry Workshop
DESCRIPTION:What does “place” mean to you? \n\n\n\nThis Might Be The Place is a collage and poetry workshop inviting you to reflect on locations that feel meaningful\, memorable or emotionally significant. Whether it is a sense of belonging or the experience of feeling out of place\, the session offers space to explore personal stories through both words and visuals. \n\n\n\nThe workshop begins with a series of short\, accessible writing prompts to help spark ideas and get you started. From there\, participants will transform their words into visual collages\, working on postcard-sized pieces or with optional templates. \n\n\n\nInspired by the expressive energy of German Expressionist theatre and a range of artist references\, the session encourages emotional exploration and bold experimentation. Guidance and prompts will be offered throughout\, while leaving plenty of room for your own interpretation and artistic voice. \n\n\n\nAll levels are welcome. \n\n\n\nEvent details\n\n\n\nDate: Saturday 2 MayTime: 2-4pmLocation: SET Social\, 55a Nigel Road\, Peckham SE15 4NPTickets: Free.
