SUMMARY:SET Stage Gallery – Softer/Harder
DESCRIPTION:Social’s SET Stage Gallery presents Softer Harder\, a performance night and exhibition examining female sexuality and desire. \n\n\n\nThe exhibition considers how women are reclaiming their bodies and sexualities in a digital-first world. Inspired by millennial and Gen Z adolescence shaped by nights on Omegle\, reading erotica on Wattpad\, and reposting lewd gifs on Tumblr\, it offers an intimate and often humorous exploration of digital culture and sex. \n\n\n\nEvent details\n\n\n\nPublic opening night and performance: Friday 17 April\, 6-10pmExhibition run: Friday 17 April – Sunday 19 April\, 2-8pmLocation: SET Stage Gallery\, 55a Nigel Road\, Peckham\, SE15 4NPTickets: \n\n\n\n\nEarly Bird – £6.13 \n\n\n\nGeneral – £8.30\n\n\n\n\nBook tickets\n\n\n\nExhibiting visual artists\n\n\n\nAarony Bailey\nAarony Bailey is a filmmaker and photographer based in South London. Through an honest and intimate lens\, Bailey uses the camera to capture semi-autobiographical narratives surrounding femininity and sexuality\, looking at the complexities of womanhood and the female body. Her honest and nostalgic explorations of intimacy\, both platonic and romantic\, invite the viewer to indulge in their own voyeurism\, unpacking the nuances of shame and desire. \n\n\n\nShe materialises her work through the use of analogue film\, specifically super 8\, 16mm\, and 35mm\, as well as using various other vintage methods of image capture and production\, such as polaroid photography and risograph printing. \n\n\n\n\nLily Bunney\nLily Bunney is a London-based artist whose work explores the intersection of vulnerability and digital consumption. Bunney’s process and aesthetic is key to reading her work. Inspired by the interwoven history of the computer and the jacquard loom\, her pointillist drawings play with the analogue and the digital; offering work which looks hyper-digital on the screen\, and tactile in person. \n\n\n\nHer practice investigates how we construct and witness our own stories in an age of overwhelming narrative abundance\, particularly examining the ways we use social media and popular culture. \n\n\n\n\nCharlie Henzi\nBorn in 2001\, Seattle\, USA\, Charlie Henzi grew up in the UK just outside of London. In 2023\, she graduated from Central Saint Martins\, UAL. She recently received her Masters in Contemporary Art Practise (2024) at the Royal College of Art. She is fascinated by images of women in popular culture\, the gaze\, the performed female\, consumption and consumerism. After studying visual codes and language for years\, she now creates works that draw directly from this and her personal experiences\, that comment on the current zeitgeist. \n\n\n\n\nPerformance artists\, readers\, and poets\n\n\n\nFopé Ajanaku\, Tara Baukovic\, Chloe Borthwick\, Daisy Norris\, Sabirin Osobole\, Maricel Reinhard \n\n\n\nAbout SET Stage Gallery\n\n\n\nLaunched in 2023\, SET Stage Gallery is a volunteer-led\, non-profit contemporary art space based at SET Social. The gallery prioritises artists with limited access to exhibition opportunities and supports a programme of monthly workshops\, talks\, screenings\, reading groups\, and exhibitions. SUMMARY:Club Bananas: Spirals Collage Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Club Bananas returns to SET Social this April with a new collage theme: Spirals. Expect circular forms\, repeating patterns\, layered shapes and hypnotic compositions. \n\n\n\nFollowing the past few months of workshops centred around nature-inspired themes such as Spring\, Blossom and Freshness\, this session takes a slightly different direction. Spirals are a recurring focus in Banana Holdwin’s current artwork. Found across cultures for thousands of years\, they appear in early Maltese\, Siberian\, Polynesian\, Chinese and African artworks\, and continue through history in decorative\, spiritual and artistic practices. They are often understood as cosmic\, protective or mystical forms. \n\n\n\nLed by local artist Banana Holdwin\, Club Bananas is an inclusive art club centred on craft-making\, collage and mixed media experimentation. The sessions centre creativity without pressure\, encouraging participants to explore freely\, embrace messiness and enjoy the process rather than focus on perfection. It is a space to connect with others\, experiment creatively and let your inner child play. \n\n\n\nEach month introduces a new theme while keeping mixed media at the heart of the practice. Participants are always welcome to follow their own ideas alongside the theme. \n\n\n\nSession focus\n\n\n\nThis session explores spiral-inspired collage using scrap paper\, magazines and found materials. Spirals are often linked to cycles\, movement and transformation\, from the motion of the sun and moon to ideas of growth and spiritual development. In some traditions\, such as Buddhism and Hinduism\, spiral forms appear in symbols like the Unalome\, representing a path towards awareness or enlightenment. \n\n\n\nApproach the theme literally by cutting and layering spiral shapes\, or take a more abstract route by exploring ideas such as cycles\, energy\, nature or transformation within your collage. \n\n\n\nAll materials are provided\, including collage supplies and scrap materials\, but you are warmly encouraged to bring magazines\, coloured paper\, postcards\, stickers or any additional materials you would like to use. \n\n\n\nSessions now take place in the Red Bar at SET Social and run on a pay what you can basis. \n\n\n\nEvent details\n\n\n\nDate: Sunday 19 AprilTimes: 3-5pmLocation: SET Social\, Red Bar\, 55a Nigel Road\, Peckham SE15 4NPTickets: Pay what you can. Tickets on the door. \n\n\n\nAbout Club Bananas: Club Bananas is an art club led by local artist Banana Holdwin\, focusing on collage and mixed media making through recycled and found materials. The sessions prioritise experimentation\, accessibility and community\, offering a playful environment for people of all ages and abilities to make work together.

SUMMARY:This Might Be The Place: Collage and Blackout Poetry Workshop
DESCRIPTION:What does “place” mean to you? \n\n\n\nThis Might Be The Place is a collage and poetry workshop inviting you to reflect on locations that feel meaningful\, memorable or emotionally significant. Whether it is a sense of belonging or the experience of feeling out of place\, the session offers space to explore personal stories through both words and visuals. \n\n\n\nThe workshop begins with a series of short\, accessible writing prompts to help spark ideas and get you started. From there\, participants will transform their words into visual collages\, working on postcard-sized pieces or with optional templates. \n\n\n\nInspired by the expressive energy of German Expressionist theatre and a range of artist references\, the session encourages emotional exploration and bold experimentation. Guidance and prompts will be offered throughout\, while leaving plenty of room for your own interpretation and artistic voice. \n\n\n\nAll levels are welcome. \n\n\n\nEvent details\n\n\n\nDate: Saturday 2 MayTime: 2-4pmLocation: SET Social\, 55a Nigel Road\, Peckham SE15 4NPTickets: Free. SUMMARY:“We\, the Living Archives” Publication Launch
DESCRIPTION:Join us to celebrate the launch of We\, the Living Archives. Three years ago\, the Liberatory Archives and Memory programme at Whose Knowledge? invited memory workers of African descent and other minoritised communities in the UK to gather for a one-day event. Together\, we asked: where and with whom do you do your memory work? What are your favourite archival and memory frameworks and practices? What are we dismantling? What are we dreaming of\, and working towards? These questions—and our responses—did not end there. \n\n\n\nThis publication brings together a collection of essays that emerged from the UK Community of Practice’s series of convenings in Bristol\, Birmingham\, London\, and Brighton. From reflections on anticolonial archives and the politics of Black and diasporic cultural memory\, to photo essays\, poetry\, conversations\, and community-based storytelling\, memory workers\, artists\, and archivists share reflections\, research\, and anticolonial practices that reimagine archives as living\, collective spaces of resistance\, solidarity\, and liberation. \n\n\n\nThe event will feature a collective conversation led by the publication’s editor\, Dr Carol Ann Dixon\, with some of the contributing authors. The event is free\, and copies of the publication will be available to purchase on the day. \n\n\n\nEvent details\n\n\n\nDate: Saturday 2 MayTime: 4-6pm (doors open at 3:45pm)Location: SET Social\, 55a Nigel Road\, Peckham\, London SE15 4NPEntry: Free \n\n\n\nBook a spot\n\n\n\nAbout the organiser\n\n\n\nWhose Knowledge? is global\, translocal multilingual non-profit organization and a campaign centering the multiple knowledges\, histories\, leadership\, and imaginations of the minoritised majority of the world. \n\n\n\nLearn more: https://whoseknowledge.org/ | https://www.liberatoryarchivesmemory.org/
