Open Studios

Join us this spring for Open Studios across six of our sites! Meet artists in their studios to chat about their work, participate in workshops and visit exhibitions in our project spaces. All events are free and open to all.

Our largest centre will be opening its doors to the public on Thursday 4 May, 4-9pm.

SET opened its new site in Riverside House on Beresford Street in March 2021. In the first month we dedicated 34 studios to artists and community groups as part of a free studio prize (more info here), and since opening, we’ve built 250 studios, two exhibition spaces, and a community garden. We now have 600 people using the building, 50% of whom live or work in Greenwich and Lewisham.

At this year’s open studios there’ll be a group exhibition Sandbox on 4th Floor East plus a group installation, activities in the garden and TWO free bars.

What’s On:

1-5pm – Community cafe open + volunteer gardening

4-9pm – Free refreshments provided in the lobby and upstairs exhibition space

4-7pm – Make your own bird feeder workshop in the garden with Chloe Solomon

6-9pm – D’Namaste Nepalese food truck in the garden ????????????

8.30-9pm – Leila Arenou and Ola Hincapié performance in the lobby

Studio Tours:

Join one of our free guided tours and meet artists for a chat in their studios while seeing works in progress. Tours of both towers will start in the lobby at 5pm, 6pm, 7pm and 8pm.

SET Lewisham and SET Lewisham High St will be opening their doors Thursday 11 May 6-9pm. They’re a 5 minute walk away from each other if you’d like to visit both on the night.

SET Lewisham address: Unit 1 Lewisham Retail Park, London, SE13 7RZ

SET Lewisham opened in January 2019 and is based in the former Mothercare Centre in Lewisham retail park. It’s now home to over 50 studio members working in a variety of practices from multimedia installation to video production, floristry and participatory performance.

The project space (a former crèche) will host the group exhibition Eavesdrop and there’ll be food in the yard and free refreshments in the project space.

SET Lewisham High St will be open, along with SET Lewisham, on Thursday 11 May 6-9pm.

Address: Third Floor, 80 – 82 Lewisham High St, London SE13 5JJ (above the Natwest)

Housed in a former office unit, SET Lewisham High St has a friendly community of around 30 studio members, many of whom have held studios with SET for years. The Open Studios will take place over two floors and will incorporate displays of posters, drawings and sculptures.

A new large-scale mosaic installation by F.A.F Collective will be on display in the project space.

Free refreshments will be provided.

SET Kensington will be opening its doors on Tuesday 16 May, 6-9pm!

Housed in the former campus of Richmond University, SET Kensington spans 20,000 sqft and is home to around 75 artists working across a variety of mediums and disciplines.

This year, there’ll be a group show, honey moon, curated by SET in the project space, a free jesmonite workshop hosted by artist Lauren Godfrey, and a rare groove vinyl set by Brother Rich and RARE GROOVE Art+Archive, as well as free refreshments.

SET Byward St, located in the heart of London, is a former commercial unit that has been transformed into an open-plan studio. With the support of the City of London and Outset Contemporary Art Fund, the space was awarded to four artists as a studio prize.

Join us on 18 May for the unveiling of Tower Hill Trinkets – a group show and open studio-cum-contemporary bazaar in the brand new exhibition window.

Visit a workshop and make art of your own, talk to artists about their work and pick up a souvenir to take home. Featuring new works, merch and workshops by; Yifan He, Abi Palmer, Leily Moghtader Mojdehi and Luning Yang.

The Open Studios will be drop-in and drinks and refreshments will be provided. No booking required.

Our Ealing centre will be opening its doors on Wednesday 24 May, 6-9pm.

Located on the Broadway high street and housed in two floors of former offices, a pawn brokers, a mattress showroom, SET Ealing is now home to 70 artists and three community groups.

For our May Open Studios, a group exhibition of four studio members’ work, custard splits will be on view in the project space along with free refreshments.
