SUMMARY:Permacomputing Club
DESCRIPTION:Date: Every MondayTime: 6.30-7.30pmLocation: SET Social\, 55A Nigel Road\, Peckham\, London\, SE15 4NPAdmission: Free entry\, RSVP optional \n\n\n\nRSVP\n\n\n\nHow can we rethink our relationship to harmful technologies? \n\n\n\nEvery Monday evening\, SET Social hosts the Permacomputing Club – a community gathering dedicated to cultivating resilient\, sustainable\, and low-tech alternatives to modern computing. Driven by anti-capitalist values\, the project builds a space in direct opposition to harmful tech monopolies and resource-heavy systems like AI. The club’s ethos is deeply inspired by permaculture and degrowth\, and guided by decolonial thinking and intersectional feminism. \n\n\n\nRather than focusing on tech “solutionism” or inventing greener gadgets\, this is a collaborative space centered on how hardware and software can prioritise adaptability\, transparency\, and care. Sessions emphasise collective discussion and hands-on maintenance over solo tinkering. Drop in to share skills\, explore regenerative computing\, practice repair\, and strategise ways to reduce the stranglehold of these pernicious systems. \n\n\n\nEveryone is welcome\, and the club particularly encourages women and non-binary folks to join us. Please bring your own tech\, and take a moment to read the club’s guiding principles at permacomputing.net/Principles before attending. \n\n\n\nThe club also hosts occasional workshops. You can find the full schedule at https://london.permacomputing.net/#event. \n\n\n\nRSVP\n\n\n\nArtist/organiser: Ana Meisel and Margot McEwen. SUMMARY:Peckham Clothes Swap for Medical Aid for Palestinians
DESCRIPTION:Bring your pre-loved clothes and swap for new treasures! Charity Swap Shop’s summer clothes swap returns for a sunny slow fashion evening at SET Social on Wednesday 19 August\, from 6-8pm. \n\n\n\nAll event proceeds and donations go directly to supporting Medical Aid for Palestinians. MAP works for a future where every Palestinian has access to a comprehensive\, effective\, and locally-led system of healthcare\, and the full realisation of their rights to health and dignity. \n\n\n\nTo achieve this\, they work in collaboration with Palestinian communities and trusted local partners to answer a wide range of health and social needs\, from providing vital medical aid in emergencies to supporting the development of better health services for the long term. They also uplift the voices of Palestinians\, and campaign for an end to the barriers to health and dignity that come from living through occupation\, displacement\, discrimination\, and conflict. \n\n\n\nSwing by the garden\, grab a drink\, and rummage through the rails for a great cause. \n\n\n\nHow it works\n\n\n\n\nBring a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 10 items. We ask that everything you bring is clean\, in great condition\, and ready to be loved by someone new!\n\n\n\nYou’ll get 1 token per item you bring. If you bring a special piece worth over £40 (we use the good-faith honor system here!)\, you’ll receive 2 tokens.\n\n\n\nUse your tokens to “buy” any of the donated items on the racks.\n\n\n\nTo keep things simple\, all clothes are considered donated once they enter the swap shop. Any gems left over at the end of the night will be donated to nearby charity shops.\n\n\n\n\nEvent details\n\n\n\nDate: Wednesday 19 AugustTime: 6-8pmLocation: SET Social\, 55a Nigel Road\, Peckham\, SE15 4NPAdmission: £5 + booking fee \n\n\n\nBook a ticket

SUMMARY:Everybody to Kenmure Street - Community Screening with Southwark and Lambeth Anti Raids
DESCRIPTION:In May 2021\, a UK Home Office dawn raid triggered one of the most spontaneous and successful acts of civil resistance in recent memory. In Pollokshields\, Scotland’s most diverse neighbourhood\, hundreds of residents rushed to the streets to stop the deportation of their neighbours. SUMMARY:Soft Ground: Textiles and Self-Soothing Workshop Series
DESCRIPTION:After a short pause\, we’re pleased to announce that Soft Ground will be recommencing on 31 July until 11 September 2026. \n\n\n\nSoft Ground is a programme of free weekly drop-in textile-based art sessions designed to support mental wellbeing through creativity\, routine\, and communal making. Drawing from neurodivergent practices and trauma-informed methodologies\, these sessions are open to everyone\, with a particularly warm welcome extended to neurodivergent participants. \n\n\n\nThe programme offers a gentle\, sensory-aware\, and low-pressure environment where you can engage with textile processes at your own pace\, using tactile making as a tool for self-soothing\, co-regulation\, and creative exploration. \n\n\n\nFor this next chapter\, we’re joined by textile artists Sue Mayo and Jenny McIlhatton\, who will each lead a series of mindful\, relaxing workshops using recycled materials and fashion waste. \n\n\n\nSessions follow a consistent weekly format designed to create structure and accessibility\, particularly for those who experience anxiety\, sensory overload\, or social isolation. While the programme centres neurodivergent experiences\, it is open to anyone in the local community interested in creativity as a pathway to wellbeing. \n\n\n\nThe programme will be taking place every Friday from 2-4pm at SET Social. Please note that there will be no session on 21st August. All sessions are free to attend and conclude with refreshments\, creating a relaxed space for conversation and connection. \n\n\n\nProgramme schedule and facilitators\n\n\n\nSue Mayo\n\n\n\nFriday 31 July & Friday 7 August (2-4pm)Sue works with recycled and preloved materials. In these sessions\, participants will explore ways of joining materials together by connecting images\, words and objects to create handmade bunting\, garlands and hangings. The workshops will introduce simple plaiting and weaving techniques\, as well as the use of air-dry clay to make buttons and beads. Participants will also create images and poems by cutting\, rearranging and reworking magazines and newspapers. The sessions will focus on making\, sharing and connecting materials\, with the aim of creating decorations for the body\, the home and public spaces. The workshops are designed to be welcoming and flexible\, allowing participants to join in at their own pace\, take breaks when needed\, and make work for themselves and others. \n\n\n\nJenny McIlhatton\n\n\n\n14\, 28 August\, 4 and 11 September (2-4pm)Jenny is an artist specialising in textiles\, with a background in fashion\, repurposing fashion waste and found objects in her practice. Through this series of workshops\, participants are invited to embrace the Japanese principles of wabi-sabi: the idea that something showing wear or age does not always need to be replaced. All the materials used throughout the workshops come from fashion industry waste. The playful samples of stitching and weaving produced across the sessions will help participants explore how processes of restoration can enhance beauty. Jenny will share simple\, mindful stitch exercises\, using rhythm and repetition to slow down and create a meditative experience. Participants will create memory collages\, intuitively selecting textures and colours to appliqué\, stitch\, or weave. \n\n\n\nEvent details\n\n\n\nDates: Every Friday\, from 31 July – 11 September (no session on 21 August)Times: 2-4pmWhere: SET Social\, 55a Nigel Road\, Peckham\, SE15 4NPAdmission: Free \n\n\n\nBook ticket\n\n\n\nProgramme credits\n\n\n\nThe programme is curated by Sylvia Keck\, Community Engagement Curator at Looking Forward. It is realised in partnership with SET and thanks to the support of the National Lottery Community Fund. \n\n\n\nAbout the organiser: Founded in 2019\, Looking Forward works internationally across contemporary art\, design\, and socially engaged practices. As curators and cultural producers\, they bring together artists\, researchers\, institutions\, and publics through medium and long-term projects that span exhibitions\, publishing\, public programming\, outreach\, communication and critical research.

Seven years later\, the movement has weathered the expansion of state repression and violence\, successive COVID-19 lockdowns\, economic collapse\, and the intensification of U.S. and British imperialist aggression across the world. \n\n\n\nEnergy Embargo for Palestine is convening a summit for all those committed to fighting for a just future to discuss: what is left of the climate movement? \n\n\n\nThis one-day event features panels from leading organisers across Britain reflecting on whether the climate movement should be reignited\, the form the movement has and should take\, and how it should integrate with some of the most pressing concerns faced by people today: the rising cost of living\, Britain’s role in U.S.-led imperialism and participation in the genocide in Gaza\, and the climate crisis. \n\n\n\nWhat to expect\n\n\n\nThrough interactive workshops\, panels\, and a final collaborative assembly\, attendees will work together to shape next steps\, expand the remit of climate organising\, and learn how to embed eco-socialist and anti-imperialist principles into their existing work and campaign strategies. \n\n\n\nAttendee information\n\n\n\n\nWho’s this event for: Designed for anyone engaged with climate and social justice issues. Due to venue constraints\, please note this is an adult-only event (no children).\n\n\n\nSchedule: The day includes structured breaks with refreshments and snacks provided.\n\n\n\nDelegates: Representatives from Left organisations are invited to participate as delegates.
