SUMMARY:Anticolonial Reading Group: Winter Edition!
DESCRIPTION: This winter\, join us as we continue our anticolonial education with Walter Rodney’s incredible book\, ‘Decolonial Marxism: Essays from the Pan-African Revolution’. Hailing from Guyana\, Walter Rodney was one of the foremost revolutionary thinkers and radical activists during Africa’s decolonial era. Before his assassination in 1980\, Rodney witnessed and participated in many decolonial struggles and made some of the first contributions to critically link race\, class\, and power analysis in post-colonial countries. \n\n\n\n In this special collection of essays\, Rodney challenges us to explore a Marxism that goes beyond Europe’s borders. What is the relevance of Marxism as a mode of liberation in the Third World\, and where does it fall short? How can we begin to talk about race in conjunction with class\, and capitalism in conjunction with colonialism? Most importantly – how can we learn from Rodney’s expansive revolutionary experience to apply these questions to our movements and liberation struggles today? \n\n\n\n First session on November 16\, 2-4PM full calendar on slide 2This reading group is open to all. It is suitable for those who have read Rodney before & those completely new to his works. We especially welcome those from decolonial backgrounds. Facing any barriers to purchasing a copy of the book? Don’t hesitate to email angstyarab@proton.me. \n\n\n\n@angstyarab@jm.btr

SUMMARY:Exhausted Feminist Hybrid Species
DESCRIPTION:Exhausted Feminist Hybrid Species is excited to announce their next reading session\, where they will explore feminist discussions\, literature\, and movements from Asia—specifically focusing on South Korea\, Japan\, Taiwan\, and India. The group is open to everyone\, and no prior reading is necessary. Key points from the texts will be summarised and shared\, so feel free to simply come along and join in. \n\n\n\nThis session aims to introduce feminist discourses not often discussed in European and UK contexts. They will present influential texts from these regions\, including Hate to Misogyny (女ぎらい: ニッポンのミソジニー) by Chizuko Ueno—a work often considered a feminist bible in East Asia. Unfortunately\, due to the lack of published English translations\, many of these critical texts remain inaccessible to English speakers. \n\n\n\nThe session will also delve into the impact of colonisation and language barriers on limiting broader feminist discussions\, examining how translation shapes—and sometimes restricts—our understanding of feminism. By exploring various forms of misogyny\, sexism\, and patriarchy unique to each region\, the group hopes to expand the conversation to broader feminist contexts. \n\n\n\n📅 RSVP via this link📩 If you have a text related to the session’s theme that you’d like to share\, please email soohyunlee97@gmail.com by 14 February\, 12pm. \n\n\n\nAccessibility: Printed reading materials\, accessible toilets\, step-free and wheelchair access. \n\n\n\nFor enquiries: soohyunlee97@gmail.com \n\n\n\nHosted by:@exhaustedfeministhybridspeciesSoo Hyun Lee @todayisoohyunRiley Tu @riileytuSameera Sardana @sameera_sardana
