Decent Homes for All: Collaborative Banner Making Workshop
19 April @ 14:00 – 17:00
Join The Etch Collective for a collaborative banner-making workshop exploring care, community and housing justice through collective textile making.
Facilitated by artist Jill Laudet, the session connects to her project Decent Homes for All, a domestic shrine to social housing and the aspiration of decent homes for everyone. The work reflects on the importance of a safe and secure home and invites reflection on housing, community and collective care.
During the workshop, participants will work together to create a large fabric banner inspired by these ideas. Through shared making, attendees are invited to explore themes of mutual support, home and belonging while contributing to a communal artwork.
A selection of fabrics, trimmings, sewing equipment and motif templates will be provided. Participants are also encouraged to bring along any fabric scraps, textiles or embellishments they would like to incorporate into the banner.
The finished banner will form part of a communal art installation and will be exhibited at the launch of Utility, an upcoming publication by The Etch Collective.
No prior sewing or art experience is needed and the workshop is open to everyone.
