Exhausted Feminist Hybrid Species

22 February 2025 @ 14:00 16:00

Exhausted Feminist Hybrid Species is excited to announce their next reading session, where they will explore feminist discussions, literature, and movements from Asia—specifically focusing on South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, and India. The group is open to everyone, and no prior reading is necessary. Key points from the texts will be summarised and shared, so feel free to simply come along and join in.

This session aims to introduce feminist discourses not often discussed in European and UK contexts. They will present influential texts from these regions, including Hate to Misogyny (女ぎらい: ニッポンのミソジニー) by Chizuko Ueno—a work often considered a feminist bible in East Asia. Unfortunately, due to the lack of published English translations, many of these critical texts remain inaccessible to English speakers.

The session will also delve into the impact of colonisation and language barriers on limiting broader feminist discussions, examining how translation shapes—and sometimes restricts—our understanding of feminism. By exploring various forms of misogyny, sexism, and patriarchy unique to each region, the group hopes to expand the conversation to broader feminist contexts.
