Situated in Old Street, one of London’s most vibrant art districts, SET 91 is our first in-house curated contemporary arts gallery, providing a non-profit platform for early-career and underrepresented artists to explore ideas, collaborate, and present new work.

Building on nine years of artist-led programming, the gallery continues SET’s commitment to accessibility, affordability, and grassroots practice.

Exhibiting in London can be challenging for early-career artists. SET 91 offers a free and accessible space where artists can experiment without commercial pressures. By prioritising innovation, collaboration, and creative risk-taking, the gallery provides an alternative to market-driven programming.

SET 91 programme

Starting September 2025, the gallery will present a six-month programme of carefully curated shows led by the SET curatorial team, SET studio members, and invited guest curators.

Alongside exhibitions, the programme features performances, moving image research, and cross-disciplinary projects.

Public opening event:
 Friday 16 January, 6-9pm

13 December – 4 January
Public opening event: Friday 12 December, 6-9pm

Light show hours: 4.30-9pm

Illuminations returns to SET 91 with a new display of artist-made lights. Now in its second iteration after its debut at SET Lewisham in 2024, the exhibition brings together 33 artists whose light-based works celebrate the Winter Solstice and stand in solidarity with Palestine.

Under Archives
15 November – 7 December
Public opening event: Friday 14 November, 6-9pm

Bringing together six international artists and the Sri Lankan Archive Collective, this exhibition highlights practices that expose and resist decades of inequities, neglect, and erasure in the process of archiving and remembering, questioning whose narratives are protected and whose are obscured.

Knock Down, the Life and Times of John Tabernacle
Friday 31 October – Sunday 2 November

Performance time: Each evening at 6pm (doors open 5.30pm; no latecomers admitted)

Led by artist Middleton Maddocks and written specifically for SET 91 on Tabernacle Street, this 45-minute experimental performance invites audiences into a playful, comedic world where absurdity reigns supreme.

Scaffolds
12 September – 5 October
Public opening event: 11 September, 6-9pm

Scaffolds brings together UK-based and international early-career artists to explore how constraints and creative frameworks shape innovative approaches to image-making. The exhibition examines how rules, structures, and limitations can act as catalysts for experimentation, generating inventive and unexpected outcomes.

Future shows will be announced soon.
