Fruit and Flesh: A group show by Dio Dunbar & Jaffar Aly
“Bringing together a dynamic blend of styles and mediums, and with the help of sketchbooks, doodles, unfinished pieces and poems, Lewisham based artists Dio Dunbar & Jaffar Aly take a playful dive into the process of portraiture.
In this vibrant exhibition, each artist cracks open the bones of their creative process, unveiling to onlookers the inner workings and charisma of their art, and in turn, themselves.
So much wonder and beauty can be found within the task of creation. This process of producing a finished piece is rarely linear, takes on many forms, is often ugly and sometimes transcends a page. Behind clean cut lines and fluid blending is a world of ideas stored in miscellaneous places, and in this duo show, the artists intend to invite you inside.
Following his 6-month residency at SET Lewisham, Dio decided to honour the progress and development he made both technically and mentally as an artist, and so “Fruit and Flesh” was conceived. Together with fellow artist Jaffar Aly, he curated this exhibition in response to his rediscovered love for creating.”
