Permacomputing Club

6 July @ 18:30 19:30

How can we rethink our relationship to harmful technologies?

Every Monday evening, SET Social hosts the Permacomputing Club – a community gathering dedicated to cultivating resilient, sustainable, and low-tech alternatives to modern computing. Driven by anti-capitalist values, the project builds a space in direct opposition to harmful tech monopolies and resource-heavy systems like AI. The club’s ethos is deeply inspired by permaculture and degrowth, and guided by decolonial thinking and intersectional feminism.

Rather than focusing on tech “solutionism” or inventing greener gadgets, this is a collaborative space centered on how hardware and software can prioritise adaptability, transparency, and care. Sessions emphasise collective discussion and hands-on maintenance over solo tinkering. Drop in to share skills, explore regenerative computing, practice repair, and strategise ways to reduce the stranglehold of these pernicious systems.

Everyone is welcome, and the club particularly encourages women and non-binary folks to join us. Please bring your own tech, and take a moment to read the club’s guiding principles at permacomputing.net/Principles before attending.

The club also hosts occasional workshops. You can find the full schedule at https://london.permacomputing.net/#event.
